How to assemble a loom
Before starting you need to assemble the loom, it can change from one type of frame to another, depending on the size and shape, but all frames will at least have these weaving materials: 2 long frames, 2 short frames, 2 rotating wrap bars, 1 heddle bar, 4 bolts, 4 washers, 4 wingnuts and 2 shuttles.
To assemble a small or medium loom
- Take out all the accessories and put them on a flat surface.
- Place the long frames vertically edgewise and the rotating warp bars horizontally, one on top of the other on the bottom.
- Place the short frames horizontally matching with the little holes.
- Now put the washer and the wingnuts on the protruding screw of the bottom left rotating bar.
- Repeat this with the other 3 screws.
- Screw one of the bolts in the bottom left short frame.
- Repeat with the other 3 screws.
- Place the heddle bar on top of the loom.
- Secure the heddle bar with the rubber bands
- You can charge the shuttles with yarn.
If you are assembling a large or extra large loom you will also have 4 more washers, 4 more wingnuts, 2 wooden stoppers, 2 long legs, 2 short legs and 4 more bolts.
To assemble a large or XL loom:
1. Follow steps 1 to 10 from the small loom.
2. Add the long legs placing the stoppers between the loom and the long leg and secure them with the washers and the wingnuts.
3. Place the short legs horizontally and secure them to the long leg and to the bottom of the frame.

How to double warp a Frame loom
There are different ways to wrap the frame loom but we prefer the double wrap, it is the safest way to do it. To double wrap:
- Once you have fixed your heddle bar to the loom with the rubber bands, take your wrapping yarn, we suggest a strong thin yarn like our cotton wrap thread, here you will find lots of different colors:
- Pass the yarn through the first grove from the bottom rotating bar starting from the left and tight a knot by passing the short length of yarn through the second grove.
- Secure the end of the yarn by passing it through the next groves.
- Carry the yarn until you reach the upper rotating bar left grove make sure that when you are passing the yarn you place the yarn in the first grove of the heddle bar.
- Carry the yarn to the bottom of the loom passing through the second grove of the heddle bar and pass it through the first grove from the bottom rotating bar.
- Wrap the yarn passing it from left to right and under the frame and pas it thro the next bottom grove.
- Carry the yarn to the top of the loom making sure you place the yarn in the next grove from the heddle bar and place the yarn in the same grove than you did before.
- Carry the yarn to the bottom of the loom placing the yarn in the next grove from the heddle bar and place it on the same grove of the bottom rotating wrap bar as before.
- Repeat steps 6 to 8 until you have wrapped the number of threads you need to weave your project.
- Tie a knot in the end to secure your project.

How to plain weave
This type of weaving is the most basic technique. Almost all the weaving kit patterns use this technique.
- Charge your shuttle with the type of weaving yarn you are using to weave your project.
- Tilt the heddle bar to one side to separate every other tread.
- Pass the shuttle from left to right leaving a tail of yarn long enough to thread it on your tapestry needle and weave the end in.
- Tilt the heddle bar in the other direction to alternate the position of the threads.
- Pass the shuttle from right to left unwinding the thread. Do not pull too tight or the sides will shrink.
- Comb the thread down so threads stay together.
- Unwind the thread a little bit more, tilt the heddle bar, pass the shuttle from left to right and comb the threads.
- Repeat steps 4 to 7 until you reach the desired length.
Now you’ve followed these simple steps, you’re ready to get weaving. You can also find plenty of ideas in our easy weaving projects section.
